BISMARCK, N.D. — The Main Street and Memorial Highway/Mandan Avenue intersection in Mandan will switch from one left-turn lane to two as part of the Memorial Highway reconstruction project. The new lane configuration is expected to open as early as this evening.

The second turn lane will help reduce backups at the intersection. The change applies to drivers heading eastbound from Mandan Avenue onto Main Street and those heading westbound from Memorial Highway onto Main Street. Drivers should watch for new lane markings and stay in their lane through the turn.

After crews wrap up remaining work for the 2026 season, five lanes will stay open at normal posted speeds all winter. Main Street will be finished with permanent concrete pavement, while a portion just east along Memorial Highway toward Faulkner's Market will remain asphalt until utilities and permanent paving are completed in 2027.

Next year, crews will reconstruct Memorial Highway from Riverwood Avenue Southeast to 32nd Avenue Southeast. Work includes new underground utilities, curb and gutter with medians at signalized intersections, bike and pedestrian facilities, updated lighting and signals, and a new stormwater system.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation thanks everyone for their patience and support throughout this construction season as crews make improvements for safer and smoother travel.
