BISMARCK, N.D. – Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, April 6, on U.S. Highway 52 south of Portal.
The project includes adding passing lanes at 8 locations from south of Portal to north of the Highway 5 and US 52 intersection. Drainage structures will also be extended at mile markers 17-19 and 23-24 to allow for the widening of the roadway.
Shoulder work will take place when the project begins but eventually US 52 will be reduced to one lane. Flaggers and pilot cars will be used to guide traffic through the work zone as necessary.
The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph and a 14-foot width restriction will be in place during culvert work.
The project is expected to be completed this fall.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to slow down and use caution throughout the work zone.
