NDDOT invites the public to review the finalized Transportation Connection 2050 and its accompanying appendices, which serve as a guide for transportation investment and planning decisions across North Dakota. The plan identifies future multi‑modal transportation needs across the state and establishes a framework to support a safe and efficient transportation system for all users.
The Future of Transportation
NDDOT has finalized the state's long-range transportation plan (LRTP). Transportation Connection 2050 is the State of North Dakota’s long-range plan for the future of transportation within the state. The plan covers a variety of modes: highway, freight and passenger rail, air service, and bicyclists and pedestrians. This federally required plan looks 25 years ahead to identify plausible scenarios for transportation in the state and help address emerging challenges. In updating the plan, NDDOT gathered input from numerous state agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, local governments, community organizations, trade associations, and tribal nations, as well as the general public.
Transportation Connection 2050 includes:
- A data-driven analysis of current conditions, analyzing North Dakota’s transportation needs
- A future-focused scenario planning process
- Meaningful public and stakeholder engagement, advancing NDDOT's mission and goals over the next two and a half decades.
