Submitted Questions for Job 23274 - X-FTFA-5-049(020)000

Please clarify 230-P01. The note requires reshaping the embankment to a 4:1 minimum slope; however, there are no excavation or embankment bid items. Are the existing foreslopes assumed to be 4:1 or flatter? If not, please clarify how the required 4:1 slope is intended to be constructed and identify the source of any additional material required. 230-P01 FORESLOPE RESHAPING: Except in guardrail embankment areas, till the foreslope to a minimum 4” depth and a 10’ minimum width. Blade away the tilled material from the existing slough before completing the full-depth reclamation with cement-treated base or overlay. After final surfacing is in place, reshape the foreslope using the tilled material to provide a smooth transition between the finished shoulder and the existing foreslope. Remove all rock and chunks of asphalt, sod, or dirt to allow a smooth transition. Include the cost to strip topsoil into a berm, stabilize and maintain the berm, reshape the embankment to a 4:1 minimum slope, and replace the topsoil in the price bid for "Foreslope Reshaping". Seeding and soil stabilization will be measured and paid separately after topsoil is replaced.

Can you clarify the intent of this note? Are cross sections or electronic files available to determine the amount of reclaimed material that will need to be moved to achieve the required centerline profile? Is the intent for reclaimed material to remain within the same general station, or is longitudinal hauling anticipated? If hauling is anticipated, what quantity and haul distance should bidders assume? 105-P01 PROFILE ELEVATION: Adjust the resulting centerline profile elevation up or down as needed to achieve the specified roadway dimensions, and to blend and balance materials following the full depth reclamation.
