Submitted Questions for Job 24107 - NH-6-081(120)175

Question 2

The plan design is to leave the existing asphalt shoulders in place. The proposal includes a Special Provision for Flexible Pavement Surface Tolerance. Will the Contractor be required to match the pavement on the shoulder edge? If so, the automatics on the paver will go up and down to match the shoulder thus defeating the purpose of a smooth ride. Leaving the shoulder in place also creates a 'bathtub effect' for rain events. This has been discussed at Spec Committee Meetings and was supposedly no longer in use by the Department. Would the Department consider milling and paving the entire roadtop?

DOT Response

Please bid project accordingly as designed.

Question 1

Plan Note 100-P03 states order of operation with Patching between Milling and Paving operations. The projected time frame for patching is 4 days. Std Spec 411.04 restricts traffic on a milled surface to 5 days. This is not possible with the proposed design. Will the milling spec be extended or waived in this situation? There needs to be an allowance for rain days and no working days (Sundays) in addition to the days necessary to complete the patching work if this sequence is followed.

Answered with Addendum.
