Can the incidental prime coat be deleted if CGA is placed in a reasonable time after gravel placement?

DOT Response

Commercial Grade Asphalt is only utilized for the temporary bypasses. Since traffic is not shifted to the bypasses until they are paved, prime coat should not be needed.

Bid item 9001000 Temporary Stream Diversion. Is this item for a stream diversion for the Bridge over Cantapeta Creek. If so is it necessary to relocate the channel completely outside the work area for bridge removal / construction , and is there right of way for a temporary bypass channel either north or south of the bridge? It would appear that the culverts in the Temporary Traffic Diversion are located in the existing channel. If the channel is required to be relocated outside of the bridge removal/ construction area is it also necessary to relocate the creek thru the temporary traffic bypass in the location where the pipes are shown on plan sheet section 60 sheet 6

DOT Response

The Temporary Stream Diversion bid item and Special Provision apply only to the ND 24 Four Mile Creek site and do not apply to the ND 1806 Cantapeta Creek site.

DOT Response

Yes, this is acceptable. A tree that is 6 feet in height with a ½-inch DBH meets the specification, which requires either a minimum height of 6 feet or a minimum DBH of 1 inch.

For structure 1806-034.274 at Cannonball River, if started before November 15th, will work be allowed to continue through the winter and past the November 15th deadline to allow for bridge footing placement in Cannonball River to avoid the spawning restriction between April 15th and June 1st? Also, can you please confirm that the bypass roads need to be asphalted per Section 30 Sheet 4? Has the DOT done gradation testing on the aggregates for the suppliers listed on the plans?

DOT Response

Substructure work at the Cannonball River Bridge will be allowed in the winter.

The temporary bypasses will need to be paved with commercial grade HMA according to Section 30, Sheet 4.

There have been no gradation tests or any material tests on the Borrow Clue locations shown in the plans. The intention of the clue is to indicate areas that have obtained cultural clearance for material source use. Any material sources used for the project must have Material Source Approval and a COA which for this project will require a field survey by a licensed archeologist and the Standing Rock tribe (See SP 226(25)).
