It appears several manholes are located within concrete paving. They are called out as R1733 castings on the Inlet and Manhole Summary plan sheets, but according to West Fargo spec, these should be R1955 floating castings. Please clarify

Was the Proposed Excavation Oversight Assistance Work Plan from Houston was submitted for approval by NDDEQ? Is the Contractor expected you to draft your own plan for review and approval by NDDEQ?

Plan Note 550-P01 (Section 6 / Sheet 3) Second paragraph: "Install inlet castings that are adjacent to the concrete roadway concurrently with the driving surface paving operation". If I am understanding this statement, the inlet castings located within the curb & gutter must be installed during mainline paving. Does this mean it is intended that the curb & gutter be installed integral with the mainline? It has been most common to pave the mainline followed by "scabbing on" the curb & gutter at which time the inlet castings are installed. Please clarify.

It appears your quantity for "Subgrade Preparation-Type A" seems off. You only have 5 STA, I believe it should be 50 STA, as 100-foot increments, not 1000-foot increments, measure this.

Plan Note 704-P02 states that "Phases and subphases may not be constructed concurrently". Considering that Improvement District 2293 located in the exception area north of phase 5 will be under construction during construction of this project (per plan note 100-P01), it appears that phase 5 is independent from the other phases. Can the phase 5 work be constructed concurrently with other phases on this project?

Our review of the contract documents shows a requirement for a “Contractor’s Laboratory” per Section 706 of the NDDOT Specifications. As noted in Section 706, this laboratory is intended for the Quality Control (QC) testing required under Section 430, “Hot Mix Asphalt.” After reviewing the plans and bid items for this project, we do not see any work that includes hot mix asphalt placement. Since there are no Section 430 QC tasks required, we would like clarification on whether the Contractor’s Laboratory provision is still applicable to this project.

Under Note 202-P02, it calls to include the cost of screening in the bid price. Is it the Contractor's responsibility to hire a third-party agency to monitor the soil for contamination, or will the Owner provide someone to monitor and test the soil as we progress through the area?

Additional Questions

Can the project team tell me who they are hiring for testing so we make sure we aren't hiring the same company? Thanks

DOT Response

The contractor is responsible for hiring a third-party agency to monitor the soil for contamination. The city will have Braun Intertec doing the material testing.
