The goal of the North Dakota Department of Transportation Safety Division is to reduce the deaths and injuries associated with motor vehicle crashes on North Dakota roads. The Safety Division administers targeted behavioral modification programs to advance the safety and welfare of the traveling public.
Vision Zero Traffic Safety Officer of the Year Award - Law enforcement officers who have demonstrated a commitment to enforcing traffic safety laws and promoting traffic safety can be nominated for Traffic Safety Officer of the Year (TSOY).
Vision Zero Beyond the Traffic Stop Award - Is designed to recognize those officers who made outstanding cases resulting from a traffic stop.
Vision Zero Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technician/Instructor award - Is designed to recognize Child Passenger Safety technicians and/or instructors for their commitment to child passenger safety through participation in check-up events, public education opportunities, teaching efforts, and dedication to a local, area-wide or state-wide CPS program.
Vision Zero Civil Servant Award - Is for individual(s) who have gone above and beyond to assist or provide information to law enforcement to remove a reckless or impaired driver(s) from the roadway.
Vision Zero Commemorative Coin - Law enforcement officers who have demonstrated a commitment to enforcing traffic safety laws and promoting traffic safety can be nominated for the Commemorative Coin.
Vision Zero Honor Roll Award - Allows individuals, teams and organizations that have made a difference within their agency, community, or the state to be recognized. Recipients of this award have demonstrated long-term contributions to traffic safety and have exceeded or gone beyond what is generally accepted as being part of their responsibility.
Vision Zero Infrastructure Award - Individual - This award is designed to recognize an individual who has made outstanding contributions to promote or implement Safety Improvements or Programs on North Dakota’s State or Local road system, at any and all phases of those improvements. The individual could be a private citizen, work for a governmental agencies, part of the contracting industry, or an engineering consultant. The individual must be nominated by another individual or entity.
Vision Zero Infrastructure Award - Program - This award is designed to recognize organizations that have made a difference within their agency, community, or the state to be recognized. The program should be such that it implements or improves safety throughout the state, region, county, community, or organization regarding transportation related infrastructure. Recipients of this award have demonstrated long-term contributions to improve traffic safety. The entity can submit a nomination for a program they have administered or enacted or they can nominate another entity for the award.
Vision Zero Infrastructure Award - Project - This award is designed to recognize a project that it improves safety in an area regarding transportation related infrastructure. The project can be roadway improvement, bicycle/pedestrian, or a multi-modal project and has demonstrated a commitment to improve safety. The entity can submit a nomination for a project they have completed or constructed or they can nominate another entity for the award.
Vision Zero Media Award - Is for the reporter/news organization that has been fair, balanced and informative in reporting transportation/traffic related issues on radio, television, newspaper, or Internet/social media.
