• 1. Buying a vehicle with North Dakota title.
1) Legal Name, State law requires all applicants to use their legal name when making an application for certificate of title and registration to a motor vehicle. Legal Name Requirements
2) Part 1 (Assignment and Warranty of Title) must be signed and dated by owner(s) (seller/Transferor) as shown on the front of the title.
3) If purchased from a dealership we will need a copy of the Dealer Bill of Sale which includes the Seller and Buyer information, Purchase Price, Date of Sale, and Vehicle Information (Make, Model, & VIN).
4) Odometer information required on all motor vehicles 2011 and newer with buyer's signature, printed name, and date.
5) Part 3 (Purchaser’s Certification and Application) must be completed and signed by buyer showing purchase price, lienholder information, if applicable, signed and dated.
6) If vehicle is less than nine (9) years old SFN 18609 Damage/Salvage Disclosure Statement must be completed by the seller.
7) Tax is due on 5% of the purchase price.
8) Title transfer fee.
9) Registration fees are due based on the first year registered and weight of the vehicle.
10) Within thirty (30) days of purchase, the transferee/buyer shall deliver the endorsed certificate of title to the Motor Vehicle Division.
• 2. Buying a vehicle with an out-of-state title or MCO (Manufacturers Certificate of Origin).

2) We will need the original out-of-state title completed by seller and buyer. If new vehicle, we will need the MCO completed by seller and buyer.
3) If purchased from a dealership we will need a copy of the Dealer Bill of Sale which includes the Seller and Buyer information, Purchase Price, Date of Sale, and Vehicle Information (Make, Model, & VIN).
4) If the vehicle is 2011 or newer, the odometer information must be completed within the reassignment on the title or the Odometer Disclosure for Retail Sale on the MCO, with sellers and buyers signatures.
5) If vehicle is less than nine (9) years old SFN 18609 Damage Disclosure Statement must be completed by the seller.
6) SFN 2872 Application for Certificate of Title and Registration of a Motor Vehicle must be completed in full and signed by the buyer.
7) Tax is due on 5% of the purchase price.
8) Title transfer fee.
9) Abandoned Vehicle Disposal fee.
10) Registration fees due are based on the first year registered and weight of the vehicle.
