Construction work will begin on the ND 20 Devils Lake Underpass project the first week in May. The project consists of replacing the BSNF railroad bridge over ND 20 in Devils Lake.
The Devils Lake Underpass work is a two-year project comprised of several phases:
The first phase of the project starts next week and consists of building a temporary bridge that will enable BNSF use of the railway while the permanent bridge is being constructed.
Traffic will be reduced to two lanes on ND 20 from ND 19 to 6th Street NE
A width restriction of 12 feet will be in place
Speeds reduced to 25 mph
Some work will occur at night
The second phase of the project consists of transferring railways to the temporary bridge and demolition of the existing railroad bridge. Once demolition is complete the permanent bridge and retaining walls will be built.
- The third phase of the project consists of transferring railways
permanent bridge and demolition of the temporary bridge.
The fourth and final phase consists of roadway work on ND 20. This will take place during the second year of the project in 2018 and will consist of reconstruction work on ND 20 from the intersection of ND 19 to 6th St. NE.
The Devils Lake Underpass Project has many phases that will require numerous changes to traffic and pedestrian flow patterns. Motorists should reduce speeds, follow signs and know that traffic control will frequently change throughout the duration of the project.
