Some parts of the state may be getting
winter weather this week as the National Weather Service is predicting
snow/rain for the south central and north eastern portions of North Dakota. As
a reminder to motorists, the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT)
has a number of tools to keep you informed of changing winter road conditions including
the NDRoads smartphone app, the online Travel Information Map, text/email
subscription service and by calling 511.
As NDDOT combats the snow and ice on the
roadways, motorists should be aware that conditions on the roadway can change
quickly during winter storm events and they should stay informed of changing
conditions. The NDDOT has multiple tools in place to help you to know before
you go and review information on winter road conditions including:
NDRoads app available for free download
Travel Information Map online at www.dot.nd.gov. Now features ‘Track-a-Plow’ which uses technology to track the location of NDDOT plow trucks in select locations as part of a pilot program.
GovDelivery. Sign up for the “Message Center” to receive important emails or texts about travel information including No Travel Advisories and Road Closures: http://www.dot.nd.gov/govdelivery/landing.htm
Conditions are reported on the Travel Information Map from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Conditions may vary from those reported.
Remember as you travel, snowplows are out working to clear snow and ice from roadways. Give them room to do their job and be patient. The NDDOT works hard to keep travelers informed of road conditions. Be prepared for winter driving by visiting dot.nd.gov
