Road work continues on Highway 1804

Work is under way on Highway 1804, widening the section from 48th Avenue to Signal Avenue, just north of the University of Mary. The $9 million project is being completed to widen the current two-lane route into five lanes of asphalt, which will include a center turning lane.

As part of the two-and-a-half mile road widening project, the Apple Creek Bridge will be replaced and a pedestrian-bike path extended to the University of Mary on the west side of 1804. The construction work will be completed by this fall.

Law enforcement officials are strictly enforcing the posted 25 mph speed limit near the bridge and 40 mph in the remainder of the work zone. There is a 12-foot width restriction on the bridge. Drivers are advised to watch for workers as well as any construction vehicles in operation.
