Road condition update as of 4 p.m. central time

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) along with the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) have issued several travel advisories throughout the day. Here are the advisories in effect at this time:

  • No Travel Advisory  in effect for areas in northwest, central and portions of eastern ND due to icy road conditions, near zero visibility and accumulating snow. Cities included are Minot, Parshall, Garrison, Harvey, Kenmare Towner, Stanley, Crosby, Bowbells, Watford City, Williston, Bismarck, Underwood, Steele, Linton, Wishek, Ashley, Edgeley, Oakes and surrounding areas. A No Travel Advisory means motorists should not travel due to hazardous conditions which may make it unsafe to travel.

  • Travel Alert in effect for the remainder of the state due to icy road conditions and reduced visibility. Cities included in the Travel Alert are: Dickinson, Jamestown, Valley City, Devils Lake, Fargo, Grand Forks and surrounding areas. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds, wear seat belts and drive according to the conditions.

Additional snowfall and continued strong winds are likely to make travel hazardous for the rest of the evening/night and possibly tomorrow.

Motorists should also be aware that travel conditions can change quickly and blowing and drifting snow with heavy accumulation will continue to create hazardous driving conditions and roads could become blocked, especially at bridges or sheltered areas.

All travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions as weather conditions occur and use caution while traveling. For road information, call 511 from any type of phone or go to the Travel Information Map at The NDDOT works hard to keep travelers informed of road conditions. However, the road conditions are not reported 24 hours a day but updated every day from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time, including holidays. It’s important to remember that the conditions may vary from what is being reported.
