A portion of ND Highway 20 in Devils Lake will be closed Monday, September 25 at 6:00 AM through Tuesday, September 26 in order to finish removing portions of the old railroad bridge and start construction on the new bridge. In order to remove the existing bridge Hwy 20 will be closed from Hwy 19 north to 6th St. NE. Motorists should use detour route on 5th Avenue and 6th Street. Once Hwy 20 is reopened it will have a slight shift to the west. Motorist should use caution when entering the new alignment.
Pedestrian traffic will be maintained during the removal process, but will be limited to the west side. Signs will be in place directing pedestrians to the safe walkway.
Traffic and pedestrian restrictions will consist of:
- ND Highway 20 will be closed from ND Highway 19 to 6th Street NE on Sept. 25 and 26 while the existing bridge is removed. Motorists should use detour route on 5th Avenue and 6th Street.
- Hwy 19 remains closed from Hwy 20 to 3rd Ave. NW. until the end of October
- Pedestrian traffic will be maintained. Pedestrians will be able to use the west path. Pedestrian are asked to pay attention to the changing conditions and follow the signage.
The Devils Lake Underpass Project has many phases that will require numerous changes to traffic and pedestrian flow patterns. Motorists should reduce speeds, follow signs and know that traffic control will frequently change throughout the duration of the project.
