Statewide – From April 1 through May 19, law enforcement agencies across the state deployed extra patrols to prevent underage drinking. A total of 266 citations were attributed to the added patrols, including 71 counts of minor in consumption and 10 counts of minor in possession, five driving under the influence (DUI) arrests, 20 other alcohol-related citations, and 19 drug-related citations.
Traffic stops by the added patrols also resulted in two felony arrests, seven warrants served, 15 speeding tickets and two seat belt citations.
Funding for additional traffic safety enforcement is provided by federal grant money distributed through the North Dakota Department of Transportation. High-visibility enforcement for traffic safety is one element of a collaborative effort to eliminate motor vehicle deaths in North Dakota.
