Title VI and Nondiscrimination Program

Under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and its related statutes and regulations, no person or groups of persons shall, on the grounds of race, color, sex, age, national origin, and handicap or disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. Within the North Dakota Department of Transportation, for example, Title VI might affect the site selection for a federal-aid highway construction project or the allotment of money for a subsidized busing facility for people with disabilities.
